"Combos" populate 2002 USAC National schedules

USAC's 2002 National racing schedules, released today, reflect numerous combined programs which will offer race fans the opportunity to witness participants in more than a single USAC racing series at a single venue.

Among these combination events are the "Copper World Indy 200" opener at Phoenix, Ariz. March 14-17, the April 7 "Glen Niebel Classic" Sprint/Midget program at Anderson, Ind., the April 19-21 events at Nazareth, Pa., a May 3 Sprint/Midget program at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the June 19-22 "Battle of the Buckeyes" at Fremont, Attica, Lima and Rossburg, Ohio, a July 7 program at Sun Prairie, Wisc., the August 10 "Joe James/Pat O'Connor" Sprint/Midget classic at Salem, Ind. and September 6, 14 and 20-21 events at Joliet, Ill., Martin, Mich. and Rossburg, Ohio ("4-Crown Nationals").

Sixth-seven events are listed on the three National calendars, although additional events are in the negotiation stage and will be released when firm. The 2002 USAC television calendar is also being finalized and will be released soon.

New events include the USAC "4-For All" Sprint/Midget "doubleheaders" at four Ohio facilities June 19-22, the "tripleheader" at Nazareth, Pa. April 19-21, a "doubleheader" at the new US 131 Speedway in Martin, Mich. Sept. 14, USAC's "Indiana Sprint Week" debut at Gas City, Ind. July 19, plus a return to Marne, Mich., Fremont and Lima, Ohio and addition of the Midgets to complete a "doubleheader" at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc.

"Traditional" 2002 Sprint and Midget events include the "Copper World Indy 200" at Phoenix, the "Glen Niebel Classic" at Anderson, Ind., the "Night Before the 500" Midget race in Indianapolis, Ind., the "Belleville Midget Nationals" in Kansas, the "Hut Hundred" Midget race, the "4-Crown Nationals" at Rossburg, Ohio, the "Turkey Night Grand Prix" Midget race at Irwindale, Calif., the "Don Branson/Jud Larson" Sprint race at Rossburg, Ohio, the "Border Wars" events in late-April, the "Tony Hulman Classic" Sprint race at Terre Haute, Ind., the "Indiana Sprint Week" events in July and the "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Classic" at Salem, Ind.

Final dates for the "Hut 100" and "Put 100" Midget races are not included in the schedules but will be added soon.
