Risi Competizione records strongest result of the season, finishing in third position in GT-LeMans.
May 4, 2014 (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.) – The pair of IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship races on Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca witnessed strong performances by the teams driving the Ferrari 458 Italia.
The day’s second race, which featured the Prototype and GT-LeMans classes, saw the no. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia finish a fighting third position. Drivers Pierre Kaffer and Giancarlo Fisichella started from the back of the field after changing tires after qualifying, negating their qualifying time. Kaffer made several positions during the opening stint, and strategy by the Risi Competizione team allowed Fisichella to lead the race in the second hour. Although he was forced off track in two instances in the closing stages of the race, Fisichella finished the race in third position.
The race for the Prototype Challenge and GT-Daytona class saw a challenging day for the Ferrari teams. The no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia of Alessandro Balzan and Jeff Westphal finished in seventh position, while the no. 64 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia of Stefan Johansson and Kyle Marcelli finished in tenth position. Rolex 24 at Daytona winners Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler finished in fourteenth position in the no. 555 AIM Autosport Ferrari 458 Italia.
Over seventy guests of Ferrari Silicon Valley attended the event, enjoying hospitality provided by Scuderia Corsa. Ferrari Silicon Valley is located a short drive from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The next event for the TUDOR Championship will be May 30-31 at The Raceway at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan.
