WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – It’s obligatory to offer a midway report on longer races, so here it is for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen: Too close to call. While most of the lead changes are occurring on pit road, no team in any of the four TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race has a clear edge.

UPDATE: With 2 hours, 10 minutes remaining, the rain has returned and most of the cars have gone to treaded rain tires. The red flag came out with just under 90 minutes to go, and the yellow flag will go out, say race officials, with about one hour, 15 minutes left.

With 105 laps in the books, the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Chevrolet Corvette is leading, with Jordan Taylor behind the wheel, but with ongoing green-flag pit stops, that will likely change. But the top four Prototype cars have consistently been the No. 10, the No. 01 Chip Ganasi Ford/Riley DP driven now by Scott Pruett; and the defending champs, the No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP, currently with Christian Fittipaldi behind the wheel, and the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP, with Michael Valiente driving. All are on the lead lap.

In Prototype Challenge, the Starworks Martini car, currently driven by Renger van der Zande, is in the lead, and was the most recent winner, in Detroit.

In GT Le Mans, the competition has been tough, with Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette Racing C7.R, followed by Pierre Kaffer in the Risi Ferrari 458 Italia. “The car is changing almost lap to lap,” said Bryan Sellers, driver of the No. 17 Falken Porsche 911 RSR, who was in second until a pit stop for a driver change.

And in GT Daytona, Markus Palttla in the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW Z4 leads the No. 22 Alex Job WeatherTech Porsche 911 GT America with Leh Keen driving. Though the first nine cars in the class are on the same lap.

More rain?

The track was wet for the first hour, though it started to dry 30 minutes in, making it difficult to decide whether to run rain tires or slicks. The rain is threatening again, but radar shows no heavy activity in the area.
Stay tuned.
