PETALUMA, CA – November 11− Beginning October 18 and concluding November 2, TRG-AMR North America continued its nonstop schedule with a variety of ongoing events. After launching the details of the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge Series in Braselton, GA during the Petit Le Mans weekend, the team embarked on a four city, cross-country journey to introduce potential partners and drivers to the amazing Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 and Vantage GT4 Challenge racecars.
The first stop on this trip back west was the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, TX. On Monday, October 21, the TRG-AMR management, drivers, and crew arrived on site to prepare for the Tuesday track day session. The event was a multiple car test and ride along day organized through Aston Martin of Austin Partner/General Manager Sonny Morgan.
KEYETV reporter Ashley Miller was the team’s guest at the track. Miller rode with driver James Vance and gave an “in car” report that aired in Austin, TX about the exciting Aston Martin race program. The story was well received in the Austin area, and has made the rounds on the internet.
One of the main reasons for the outing was to give a number of Vantage GT4 Challenge Series prospective competitors the opportunity to sample the new vehicle and the amazing facility at COTA. TRG-AMR driver Drew Regitz brought his GT4 to the track day to continue to prepare for his 2014 racing campaign. He enjoyed the fast and wide COTA track and ran flawlessly all day. The team cycled a total of nearly 30 drivers through all of the racecars and at the end of the day there were smiles all around.
Finally, the test also allowed a number of prospective TUDOR United Sports Car, Pirelli World Challenge, and Continental Tire Series drivers the opportunity to drive the V12 Vantage GT3 and Vantage GT4 at full throttle. Multiple amateur and professional drivers used the day to drive and understand the racecars and to be evaluated by the team. This event gave Aston Martin Americas Operation Manager Bill Norman the chance to attend and witness the exciting developments in the TRG-AMR North America program. With all of this going on, it made for an exciting and informative day at the race track. A big thank you again to Sonny Morgan!
After a long haul (over 2000 miles) from Austin to Monterey, CA, the TRG-AMR transporters arrived at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Friday evening. TRG-AMR partner and local track day organizer, Joshua Schachter intertwined his annual track day event with the Aston component. With beautiful weather and sunny skies the Aston's ran flawlessly and the team was able to cycle through multiple potential drivers for the upcoming season as well as a number of drivers looking to drive at the professional level.
Regitz made the trip from Austin so that he could continue to gain time in the GT4 on another epic racetrack. His ownership of the GT4 and the TRG-AMR outing schedule will undoubtedly give Regitz familiarization in the GT4 Challenge series format early on in the season.
The final stop on the two-week trek took the team to the high desert of Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. The facility just outside of Palm Springs, CA allowed the team to conduct an extensive driver evaluation test for 2014. The V12 Vantage GT3, Vantage GT4, and Vantage GT4 Challenge series vehicles were all utilized by a number of prospective TRG-AMR North America drivers. After this intense two-week period, the team was proud to have cycled nearly 50 drivers through the multiple cars that resulted in three new car sales and full-time commitments for 2014.
Next for the team is a very important TUDOR United Sports Car Championship “Balance of Performance” winter testing week in Florida. This test will see TRG-AMR North America and Aston Martin Racing test the V12 Vantage GT3 GTD and Vantage LM GTLM cars at Daytona and Sebring. Look for an update on driver line up and results from this important testing week.
