Ozz Negri set for return to Interlagos in Brazilian Stock Car

Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian driver Ozz Negri will team with John Pew and Justin Wilson this weekend at Sebring.

Sebring, Fla. – Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian driver Ozz Negri will have a busy stretch of racing once again, as the Rolex 24 Champion is set to return to his native Brazil to compete in the hugely popular Brazilian Stock Car Series next weekend.

Before he heads home for his first race at the fabled Interlagos, Negri will team with John Pew and Justin Wilson this weekend for Round 2 of the 2014 IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the 62nd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida this week at Sebring International Raceway (FOX Sports 1, 10:00 AM).

“It will be fun; it's been 23 years since I last raced in Brazil” said Negri. “It will be pretty cool to race in my home town of Sao Paolo and at Interlagos, which is the track that I drove for the first time in a race car and where I also won my first race [both in Formula Ford]. So it will be very cool to do it while my parents, brother, family and friends will all be there.”

As he joins the Brazilian Stock Car series, which enjoys a NASCAR-level of popularity in Brazil, Negri will be a “Guest Driver” as he pairs with defending champion Ricardo Maurício in car No. 90 for the Eurofarma squad which is headed by Rosinei Campos. Negri will leave Sebring and head directly to Brazil for the event, which will take the green flag on March 23.

“The stock car series in Brazil is very big, extremely popular,” continued Negri. “The cars look like DTM cars, although they are not quite as sophisticated. They are trying to do the same thing there as the V8 Supercar series in Australia where they invite a group of drivers who are racing internationally to compete. So there will be a lot of other drivers who are racing here at Sebring this weekend who will also be there. It's going to be a big deal for me.”

While the return to Interlagos will see Negri get re-aquainted with a familiar track, the car will be an entirely new story.

“I'm going in cold; I haven't done any testing in this car,” said Negri. “The team that I'm running for won the championship last year and my co-driver is last year's champion so I will have very good people to coach me and help me to get up to speed in the car. I'm just really looking forward to it. I've kind of been bombarded with people who want to come to the race, on Facebook and via email. It will be so good to see so many people that I haven't seen for a while, it will be good!”
