Although Scott Pruett was able to win the Lone Star Le Mans for the Tudor United SportsCar Championship at the Circuit of the Americas, the fight of the race was between Alex Brundle in the Ligier and Joao Barbosa in the Corvette DP.
Barbosa approached some traffic and was held up for a little bit, allowing Brundle to overtake. Barbosa fought back but was unable to get around the Ligier and had to settle for third after being held up by a couple of BMWs.
Brundle talks about fight for P2
“He got a little bit tucked up by the BMW into turn six and I knew we could get around the outside of there, so I went screaming around the outside, ran it a little bit loose in the dirt and then went plunging down the inside," Brundle told Motorsport.com "We had a bit of a rub but got to the apex nice and clean and got the move done."
Definitely the BMW guys, it’s not the first time they’ve given me a hard time ... I don't know what they were thinking
Joao Barbosa on GT traffic
Barbosa was just glad to finish in the top three because there is still a championship fight until Petit Le Mans and points are always valuable.
Barbosa talks about fight for P2 - Not happy with BMW drivers
“I had really bad luck with traffic and I lost contact with him [Pruett], so until that point I thought [about] surviving and try to get as many points as possible because I knew the 90 and the 10 car were quite far behind so it was very important to finish the race strong and bring as many points as we could,” Barbosa explained to Motorsport.com
Although he was glad to finish on the podium, he wasn’t too thrilled with the BMW drivers.
“It’s racing, you get traffic, sometimes it’s good for you, sometimes it’s bad for you, that’s why sports car [racing] is so interesting because you never know and it’s very unpredictable. Definitely the BMW guys, it’s not the first time they’ve given me a hard time, it would be easier for them and it would be easier for me if they just made it a little bit easier to overtake. I got pushed around a little bit, I don’t know what they were thinking, but overall it was a great result and that’s always a part of racing,” Barbosa said.
