Skeen Climbs to Top of Time Chart in SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Practice 2 at Miller
TOOELE, Utah (June 5, 2010) -- After posting the sixth-quickest time in the first practice of the day for the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series at Miller Motorsports Park, Mike Skeen moved to the top of the charts and posted the quickest lap of the day in Practice 2.
Skeen, of Charlotte, N.C., turned a best lap at 1:29.511 (88.480 mph) in the No. 81 Baker Manufactuing/Next Table Chevrolet Corvette. He and his Agee Racing teammates are planning to make their first Trans-Am start of the season in Sunday's race after missing the first two rounds of the season due to a mechanical problem suffered in testing at New Jersey Motorsports Park last month.
Skeen was seven tenths of a second quicker than his next closest competitor, defending Trans-Am Series champion Tomy Drissi in the No. 5 THE A-TEAM: THERE IS NO PLAN B Jaguar XKR. Drissi, of Hollywood, Calif., logged a best lap at 1:30.210 (87.795 mph).
Points leader RJ Lopez, of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was third-quickest in the second practice session at 1:30.229 (87.776 mph) in the No. 6 Disco 106/ECR Engines/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette. Lopez had the quickest time for much of the second session before Skeen and Drissi moved to the top of the chart in the waning minutes.
Tony Ave, who led the opening practice session, slipped to fourth in Practice 2. The driver from Maiden, N.C. turned a best lap at 1:30.537 (87.478 mph) in the No. 4 Tony Ave Racing/Pro Motor Engines Chevrolet Corvette. Simon Gregg, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., went from third in Practice 1 to fifth in Practice 2. His best lap was a 1:30.958 (87.073 mph) in the No. 59 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette.
