SAN DIEGO OFF FOR THE TRANS-AM SERIES IN 2000
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Due to construction delays for the inaugural November, 1999 San Diego Grand Prix, the initial event will now take place February 26-27, 2000, eliminating the November 6-7, 2000 date that was previously announced for the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. The February date for the San Diego Grand Prix is too early in the year to be part of the 2000 Trans-Am Series schedule, and the debut of the San Diego Grand Prix will now solely feature the American Le Mans Series as its headline event. Five of the planned 13 to 14-race dates on the 2000 BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series schedule have been announced. The remaining venues and dates will be released when details are available. "It's unfortunate to cancel our participation in the San Diego Grand Prix, but we understand the difficulties they've encountered and support the decision to change their inaugural date to next February," said K.C. Van Niman, SCCA Pro Racing President and CEO. "We are working diligently to complete the 2000 Trans-Am Series schedule, and we will have a full calendar of premier venues for the Trans-Am's 35th season."
