LAST CHANCE FOR VICTORY IN 2010 TRANS-AM SEASON FOR DRISSI AT ROAD ATLANTA
EAST LANSING, Michigan (September 28, 2010) - It would seem fitting to end the 2010 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Season how it all began for Tomy Drissi, in victory circle. That will be the goal as Drissi and the RSR squad prepare for the season finale at Road Atlanta, October 1.
"I am really looking forward to this weekend and hoping for a good end result," said Drissi. "It has not been an easy season for us. We started off strong in the season opener at New Jersey with a win, but since then we have had our share of good times and bad. It is disappointing that I wasn't able to defend my 2009 championship title, but I still have a shot at finishing second in the standings this season so I will give it all I can. I enjoy the Road Atlanta course and I feel that the #5 Unstoppable Jaguar XKR will be strong there."
This will be the California-native's fourth Trans-Am race on the 2.54-mile course in Braselton, Georgia. Driving the #5 Unstoppable Jaguar XKR, Drissi will be making his 96th Trans-Am start. He will be searching for his second victory this year. After nine rounds, Drissi has one win, four front row starts including one pole, four podiums, five top-fives and nine top-ten finishes. With one race remaining, he sits third in the drivers' championship point standings with a total of 928 points, trailing second (RJ Lopez) by 83 points.
Drissi will be doing double duty for the RSR team, not only competing in the Trans-Am race with a Jaguar XKR Trans-Am racer, but also the Petit Le Mans co-driving the #33 JaguarRSR XKR GT2 in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron on Saturday.
"It will be an exciting, yet busy weekend," added Drissi. "It is great that the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series gets to be a part of such a big weekend at Road Atlanta - the Petit Le Mans. Car enthusiast alike will be amazed by the show we will put on in the Trans-Am machines. Then to hop over to RSR's GT2 program and get behind the wheel of another great Jaguar racecar, will be such an amazing experience. I hope we have great results in both events - what a way to end a racing season!"
As the famous moving billboard for 20th Century Fox in the Trans-Am Series, the owner of Drissi Advertising and Drissi Motosports will continue to promote the new movie, 20th Century Fox's Unstoppable directed by Tony Scott starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, and Rosario Dawson, out in theatres November 12. With endeavors to always put his personal sponsors in the spotlight both on and off track, Drissi worked hard to create additional exposure for 20th Century Fox and Muscle Milk this weekend. Both great companies will be advertised on the famous bridge that crosses over the track as the cars head down to Turn 12 for both events this weekend.
The SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Road Atlanta race weekend will officially kick off on Wednesday, September 29 with two practice sessions scheduled for the SCCA Pro Trans-Am Series. Qualifying will take place on Thursday at 11:45 pm ET and Friday will host the 90 mile / 90 minute race which is scheduled to take the green flag at 4:35 p.m. local time. In the spring of 2009, Paul Gentilozzi and his sons, Tony and John, founded RSR with the support of Jaguar Cars Ltd. Gentilozzi, a five-time Trans-Am Champion and record holder in virtually all categories of the Trans-Am history book, continues to have the support of a dedicated staff of championship winning employees who to date have recorded 59 poles, 144 podium finishes, 62 victories, 8 Drivers' Championships and 8 Manufacturers' Championships in Trans-Am competition under the helm of Gentilozzi. 2010 brings the return of Tomy Drissi, 2009 Trans-Am Champion, competing in a Jaguar XKR for the second consecutive year with Gentilozzi's squad.
