SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2002 - POST-RACE
Tomy Drissi, driver of the no. 5 Pyro Jaguar XKR, finished eighth after running as high as fifth after qualifying ninth in The Johnson Controls 100 Trans-Am Race...has five top-ten finishes this season...later received a post-race penalty for contact with another competitor and was moved back to ninth place.
NOTE 1 - ROAD AMERICA BACKGROUND...Has three starts here, best finish - 6th in 2000...In 2001, qualified sixth, but slide off the track in torrential rains, finishing 25th.
NOTE 2 - BACKGROUND STATS...Finished third at Trois-Rivieres, his first podium finish since Mosport in 2000...Has four top-ten finishes in seven starts...In 2001, finished 11th in the points standings...Had five top-ten finishes and two "Fast Five" starts...In 2000, was voted "Most Improved Driver"...Won the "Rookie of the Year" title in 1999.
NOTE 3 - Joins Rocketsports Racing stable this season after a stint as on owner/driver in 1999 and 2000.
On his race... "We had a pretty good car today. It was a little loose at times, but that's to be expected. We were running a good smart race and staying out of trouble. I thought we might have a top-five today, but after that last restart, we gave up a couple positions.
"I raced Butch there for a while when he was trying to work his way back through the pack, which was great fun. There was a lot of good racing out there today.
"We're in good shape as we head into the final races of the season."
