"The track conditions are different today than during the test day yesterday. This morning the ambient temperature was much different than yesterday's heat and humidity which made for less downforce and horsepower. So, naturally we'd go faster this morning."

On his practice session today... "We ran a bunch of miles yesterday in the test sessions and today we're still running the same times, so we need to work on the car a little. We keep doing stuff and it changes the car, but it's not the right thing we're looking for. We're not working on the right piece.

"We'll keep working at it with what we have. That's why we have practice sessions."

On his practice session ... "We were out most of the session on old tires. Then once we stickered up, I couldn't get a clean lap. We tried some things with the shocks and we were working on making it turn in better. All the changes we made were positive and we're headed in the right direction.

"The track was good, it was pretty grippy. A couple cars went off which spit up some dirt, but it was cleaned off within a lap.

"I'm looking for a top five in qualifying and we'll be happy with that. Then, we'll race from there."

On his practice session ..."By the end of the session, I was still hammering for more. The car was great and I'm very happy with where we are right now, but I want more. (Laughs) I'm going after (my teammate) Scott Pruett. I mean, I'm never going to get better if I stay content and don't start looking ahead. So this is a good start, the guys gave me a really good car, but I still want more...from me and the car."
