Tommy Kendall Puts AJ-V8 at the Top of the Order in First-Round practice at 35th Annual Trans-Am Rumble at The Road
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 6, 2004) -- Tommy Kendall was fastest in first-round practice for Sunday's 35th Annual Trans-Am Rumble at the Road Saturday at Road America, Kendall (No. 11 Jaguar R Performance XKR), driving the only car in the field utilizing Jaguar's new stock-block, fuel-injected AJ-V8 engine, turned the 4.048-mile track in two minutes, 8.372 seconds (113.520 miles per hour). Interestingly Kendall's time was just a tick off the pole record here of 2:08.143 minutes (113.723 mph), set by Johnny Miller last year.
Paul Gentilozzi was second fastest in the No. 6 Jaguar R Performance XKR, more that one second behind Kendall. Tomy Drissi (No. 5 Taxi -- The Movie Jaguar XKR), Randy Ruhlman (No. 49 Preformed Line Products Chevrolet Corvette) and Jorge Diaz, Jr. (No. 8 Puerto Rico Grand Prix Jaguar XKR) completed the top five.

The 35th Annual Rumble at the Road is scheduled for Friday and Saturday Aug. 6-7. The Trans-Am race is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. CDT on Saturday. The Trans-Am Series is part of a full weekend of racing, which also includes the featured Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, as well as the Toyota Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama, Formula BMW USA and Formula Dodge National Championship.
