SIMO ON POLE FOR COLORADO NTB TRANS-AM
FOUNTAIN, Colo. -- Brian Simo scored his second pole of the year to front the 32-car NTB Trans-Am Series field for Sunday's 73-lap, 97.82-mile Children's Hospital Grand Prix of Colorado at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
Simo, driving the No. 2 Valvoline Ford Mustang Cobra, posted a top time of 0:53.143 (90.773 mph) and was fourth for most of the Fast Five Qualifying session before putting in the fast time on his final qualifying lap.
"I'd come into the pits and I wasn't satisfied with fourth, so I gave it one more shot," said Simo. "I really just pulled my pants up and held on through the banking."
Qualifying second was Ross Thompson, posting his career-best qualifying effort.
"This track really plays well to a driver who can finesse the infield and be aggressive on the banking," said Thompson. Starting third behind Thompson is Chris Neville, followed by Michael Lewis and Stu Hayner.
