EAST LANSING, Michigan (May 27, 2009) - A new challenge is on for Rocketsports Racing's Trans-Am drivers Tomy Drissi and Daniel Ramoutarsingh as they head to the 2.4-mile, 15-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend for Round 4 of the 2009 Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series.
The road course at Mid-Ohio is one of the classic North American road courses and it is an excellent spectator facility, providing some of the best vantage points in the country. Mid-Ohio from a driver's perspective can be very challenging for the new competitor and a seasoned veteran. It is a technical course requiring precise car placement at the end of every straight and at every apex. This is simple to say but requires complete concentration at all times, a simple error may not result in an off road excursion but the penalty is paid in lap time. The team is looking forward to their first win of the season and has worked diligently since Mosport to put the Rocketsports Racing drivers out front from the start of practice to the checkered flag on Sunday.
Rocketsports Racing has previously entered 12 Trans-Am events at Mid-Ohio. The team has started on the pole six times, including two years of sweeping the front row. They have produced four wins and a total of eight podium finishes. The team has completed 1,128 out of 1,224 laps possible and earned three Fastest Race Laps.
Coming off a second-place finish at Mosport, Drissi is looking for his first win this season at Mid-Ohio. For the next two events, the owner of Drissi Advertising will be promoting the new movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (www.iceagemovie.com) coming out July 1 on his #5 Jaguar XKR. The Hollywood-native will be making his 81st Trans-Am start and his third at Mid-Ohio.
"I really like racing at Mid-Ohio," said Drissi. "It is a course that keeps you very busy as a driver. It is a really technical track and there is really no place to rest during a lap; even the straightaway has a nice little kink in it. It really gets your attention which helps keep you focused as a driver. We finished second at the last race, we just need one more spot this weekend to claim the win. We have been close, but it just hasn't been enough when you are competing against Tony Ave, Klaus Graf and several other guys that are very fast. We have the speed in the #5 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Jaguar XKR, we just need to pick up some time especially at the beginning of the race. I have been used to races that are a little longer in length; therefore I have been saving too much and waiting a little too long to get on it. So mentally I have a new focus in hopes to gain that time we need to get to victory circle this weekend."
Ramoutarsingh will be making his fourth Trans-Am start this weekend driving the #8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR. The rookie from Trinidad's best finish this season was 6th during the season opener at Road Atlanta. Despite some on-track setbacks, Ramoutarsingh shows constant improvement each session and has strong potential for a good result at Mid-Ohio.
"I look forward to the experience at Mid-Ohio, another great North American road course. It looks to be a technical track with a variety of high, medium, and low speed corners. There are aspects of the previous tracks we have raced on this season that mix into this one, so I look forward to using the knowledge that I have obtained and applying it to this track. The #8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR has been strong but I have had some circumstances during the last two events that were less then ideal. Once again I am hoping to put my best foot forward with the help of my team to try and recover at this event with a good result."
Trans-Am racing returns to Mid-Ohio after a seven-year hiatus. The series joins the Ohio Valley Region SCCA "Race of Champions" National May 30-31 in Lexington, Ohio. RSR drivers will participate in a test day on Friday, followed by a practice session and qualifying on Saturday. Round 4 of the 2009 Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series will take place Sunday, May 31 with the 40-lap race schedule to take the green flag at 2:45 p.m. EDT.
