Lexington, OH (June 6, 1999) - Michael Lewis driver of the AmeriSuites # 12 Ford Mustang Cobra, finished the Mid-Ohio U.S. Road Racing Classic with a sixth place finish earning enough points to hold onto third place in the overall championship point standings of the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. By finishing the 45 laps of the race, Michael Lewis is the only driver to have completed all 184 laps of the series.
"We finished the race, albeit at sixth place, and are the only team to have completed every lap of the first four events. We made the "Fast Five Qualifying" for the third time this year and we had a solid top three car for the race. Unfortunately, we had an engine problem that kept us from running up front. Fortunately, we still finished well enough to maintain our points position." explained Lewis.
The off-season testing and new team strategies have proven successful for this team's third full year in the Trans-Am Series. "The consistency is paying off" said Team Manager, David Steele, "we are in a much better position now than in the last two years." "Lewis is running clean, consistent lap times and that is key to finishing every race. Even though we were having difficulties at Mid-Ohio, Lewis hung in there and gave it his all."
There is a much needed break between races that will allow the team to thoroughly review the past performances and prepare for Round Five of the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series held on July 10th at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
