Joey Scarallo Ready To Deliver on His Promise at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
MONTEREY, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2004) -- Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 Toyo Tires/ROH Wheels/Group A-Autotrend Chevrolet Corvette, is anticipating a great finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in this weekend's Trans-Am 100. The sophomore driver competes this weekend in Round 9 of the Motorock Trans-Am Series Championship at Laguna Seca. Scarallo, who currently ranks sixth in Series points, will take the wheel at the 2.238-mile, 11-turn road course Saturday Sept. 11.
"I promised myself I would score one podium finish this year," said Scarallo. "I haven't fulfilled that promise yet, but, with the cancellation of Puerto Rico, the pressure is on for me to accomplish my goal this weekend. This is the last race of the season, and I have to keep the promise I made to myself."
"I am looking forward to putting on a good show this weekend," added Scarallo. "My Baucom Motorsports team has been working on my car since Denver. We're ready for Laguna."
Scarallo teamed with Baucom Motorsports this year. Owner/driver John Baucom has been preparing Scarallo's car this season. Baucom also fields the No. 86 Ford Mustang.
"Teaming with John this season has been a good move," said Scarallo. "I am able to focus on what I love most, driving, and not the stress of maintaining the car.
A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driver's seat since he was 11, racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three championships in 1993.
Scarallo won championships in the International Karting Federation in 1996, and recorded three top-ten finishes in the U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts. Scarallo also competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000.
Born in Adelaide, Australia, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. He manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his family's wheel importing business, the only U.S. distributor of ROH Wheels, in Lindenhurst, N.Y.
