(June 17, 2000) Despite a rocky qualifying round, Leighton Reese (Minnetonka, MN) and the #66 Banner Racing Team managed to pull off a top ten finish in round 5 of the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series today from Belle Isle, Detroit, MI.

Starting from 31st position on the grid, Reese took the Banner Engineering car up to the top of the field to a respectable seventh place. While running in seventh place, the transmission broke, causing Reese to loose third gear. "Third gear is so crucial at this track", said Reese. "It literally took me about 2-3 laps to learn how to drive the car here without 3rd gear. We could have easily ran with top contenders, but that bad luck just doesn't seem to want to let go."

Regardless of the broken transmission and no third gear, Leighton finished with an impressive tenth place right behind Lou Gigliotti. Paul Gentalozzi took the win with Brian Simo and Willy T. Ribbs following respectively.

This weekends race can be seen on Speedvision on June 26 at 8 PM EST.
