FORT WORTH-DALLAS (August 28, 2000) - As race week begins for the Grand Prix of Texas, the entire Fort Worth-Dallas area will be getting up close with international drivers and breathtaking cars. Daily events this week offer a preview of the action-packed Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-3.
"We are so excited to bring world-class Grand Prix racing to Texas," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "These events around town are for the fans, to show them what road racing is all about, and it's in their own backyard. With so many of the drivers being local to Fort Worth and Dallas, it makes it more exciting for everyone."
Race week events for the Grand Prix of Texas are as follows and are subject to change.
- Tuesday, Aug. 29 - SpeedZone Race Park - I-35 and Walnut Hill - Dallas 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Free racing from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. during "Rush Hour." Grand Prix drivers will be on hand signing autographs, racing against the public for prizes, race tickets, and more.
- Wednesday, Aug. 30 - Cook's Children's Hospital - Dallas 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Women's Global GT drivers including champion Cindi Lux, Bobbie Marshall, and Belinda Endress will visit the hospital with a race car and will be signing autographs.
- Wednesday, Aug. 30 - Texas Rangers game - The Ballpark in Arlington 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Trans-Am and Speedvision cars on display, drivers Lou Gigliotti and Randy Ruhlman will be signing autographs along with ticket giveaways and free posters to fans.
- Wednesday, Aug. 30 - Billy Bob's Texas - Fort Worth Stockyards 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. "Ladies Night" - Women's Global GT drivers will be on hand for two-stepping, ticket giveaways, and autographs.
