Calgary Driver Faces Cleveland Challenge
CALGARY, AB, June 22, 2005-A week after his Trans-Am Racing Series debut in Portland last week, Calgary driver Hima Maher will face an even greater challenge this weekend at the Grand Prix of Cleveland. Driving his Centennial Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette, Maher will take on the bumpy, 2.1-mile course at the Burke Lakefront Airport for the Trans-Am on the Tarmac, Saturday, June 25 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
However, Maher says, "I am physically and mentally prepared for the track which is very demanding, especially in the very wide Turn One where the cars spread out going in and come together at the corner." A larger field of competitors will also add to the suspense.
"This track is faster than Portland and physically hard on a driver," says Maher, adding that he will use his Portland experience to plot strategy for his second appearance with the Derhaag Motorsports racing team. "There are very few landmarks and it is difficult to find the correct turn in points in order to post consistent lap times."
However, Maher, who says he is in the best shape in his extensive racing career, is counting on a strong result. "I have worked hard, done my homework and studied the track," he says. "The team is working well together and we look forward to a solid race and another solid top-10 finish."
Viewers wanting the check out Maher's performance at the Portland Rose City 100 last Saturday can watch the pretaped race, airing on Speed Channel, Sunday, June 26 at 1 p.m. ET.
