Sebring, Florida ... Piloting his brand new Soenen Motorsports Ford Mustang, top-ranked driver Chris Neville deftly drove his way to a second place finish in the BF Goodrich Tires Series season opener.
Gridded in 5th, Neville thundered off the startline with a vengeance, moving into 4th, then 3rd and finally 2nd. "I couldn't be more pleased," said Neville. "Our goal was just to finish this first event and being on the podium is better than I had dared to hope. This weekend is the first time this car hit the track. We've only had the car for just about four weeks and the crew has worked day and night to get everything ready. Obviously they did an incredible job."
As the 27 lap, 99.9 mile race neared the end, the two first place cars tangled putting Neville in the lead. "When the Green came down," explains Neville, "all I was trying to do was hold on to our Podium finish. Maybe we had a little 'luck of the Irish' today, because when I came out of turn 3, we were suddenly in the lead! However with a car that didn't have any brakes, I knew it would almost impossible to hold off Brian Sirno and finishing 2nd was far more important than making a mistake that would take both of us out of the race. We still have a lot more work to do on the car, but when Pound 2 gets underway in two weeks, we will be ready."
