Brian Simo will return to Trans-Am Series action this weekend, driving the No. 3 Jaguar R Performance XKR for Rocketsports Racing. The Carlsbad, Calif., driver will be chasing victory in the May 26 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn.

Simo is the 2000 Trans-Am Series champion. He finished first or second in the series for five consecutive years. Although Simo and Rocketsports owner Paul Gentilozzi are usually on-track rivals, they teamed for victory in the 2002 Rolex 24 at Daytona, where they won the GTS class by a 10-lap margin in the Rocketsports Jaguar.

"It's exciting to be back in Trans-Am, especially driving Paul's car. It will be strange not to see him in my rear-view mirror!" Simo joked. "I am looking forward to racing with Rocketsports again. I haven't been in the car for a year, but I have a lot of respect for these guys and I know they'll have a great car for me."

The respect is mutual. "Brian is a great competitor and a good friend," Gentilozzi said. "It is going to be a great weekend having him drive with us at Lime Rock. His competitive nature will add to what is always a great race."

Simo's first Trans-Am race was at Lime Rock Park, in 1993. He won his first Trans-Am pole position on the 1.53-mile road course in 1998 and collected both the pole and race win there in 1999.

"Lime Rock has been pretty good to me - I drove my first Trans-Am race there, got my first pole and won from the pole there," he said. "Hopefully, we can get up to speed quickly and get another first this weekend."
