Drissi Quickest in SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Practice at Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn. (September 4, 2010) -- Defending SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series champion Tomy Drissi, of Hollywood, Calif., topped the time charts in the first official on-track activity for Trans-Am in 21 years at Brainerd International Raceway.

Driving the No. 5 Unstoppable Jaguar XKR, Drissi posted a best lap at 1:29.612 (100.433 mph) around the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Minnesota road course to lead the 30-minute session. Drissi heads into this afternoon's qualifying session looking for his second pole position of the season and will be looking for his second win of the year in Sunday's race. Drissi took pole at Toronto in July and won May's season-opening race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Second quickest was current points leader Tony Ave, of Maiden, N.C. in the No. 4 Lamers Racing/McMahon Group/Optech/PME Chevrolet Corvette. Ave logged a best lap at 1:29.870 (100.145 mph) and leads the series with four victories and five pole positions from the season's first seven races.

RJ Lopez, of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, wound up third in practice in the No. 6 Disco 106/ECR Engines/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette. Lopez turned a best time at 1:31.441 (98.424 mph). He has finished on the podium in all but one of this season's races thus far and is looking for his second Trans-Am victory this weekend. He earned his first win in July in Toronto.

Preparing for his 151st career Trans-Am start but his first since 1997, Jim Derhaag, of Chaska, Minn. was fourth quickest in the No. 40 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette. Derhaag's best time was a 1:32.172 (97.644 mph).

Rounding out the top five was Bobby Sak, of Kalamazoo, Mich., with a time of 1:32.333 (97.473 mph) in the No. 17 The Pita Pit/The Grotto at Capone's Chevrolet Corvette. Sak is making his first Trans-Am appearance this weekend since 2003.

A 30-minute qualifying session is slated to begin at 1:55 p.m. CDT this afternoon. Sunday's 36-lap race will take the green flag at 2:45 p.m. CDT.
