Qualifying Saturday Afternoon

Michael qualified the No.2 Nismo Skyline, he shares with Ukyo Katayama, in tenth position for the third round of the All Japan GT series. Michael's was the highest placed Nissan despite carrying 50 Kgs of success ballast.

"Tenth is not as high as I would have liked, but with the 50 Kgs, I am pleased to be the best placed Nissan, Sugo is a circuit that does not suit the Skyline. It is going to be a difficult race tomorrow" commented Michael on Saturday evening.

Race Sunday Afternoon

From the start Michael held his position and enjoyed a very close dice with Ralf Firmin who had started his Toyota Supra in position 11. Ralf managing to pass Michael only when he had a huge slide at over 200 kmh allowing Ralph to out drag him on the following straight.

Both Michael and Ralph later slid off the circuit, on a combination of oil and fuel dropped by another competitor, allowing the ballast free Nissan Skyline of Hoshino to pass them both.

Although Michael was suffering with worn tyres he completed a long first stint and pitted from seventh position only a few seconds behind the fifth and sixth placed cars. Katayama rejoined the track and set about improving their position, unfortunately the truculent Skyline caught Ukyo out and he spun on two occasions, relegating the No. 2 Nissan to eleventh overall.

Michael said "Today was very difficult, we had to work really hard for a finish just outside the points, which is not so good for the Championship. We will have only 30kgs of ballast at the next race and we must make sure we get points in all the remaining races as there are only 7 rounds in the Championship."
