No. 22 Nismo Skyline finishes Eighth in Suzuka

Qualifying
Michael qualified the mighty Skyline, which this weekend is carrying 40 kg's of success ballast, in eighth position with a time of 1'59.333. Incredibly the field was extremely close together, positions four to twelve took only one tenth of a second. " We still cannot find a really good balance in the car, but it is OK. My qualifying laps where all good although I am surprised we are only eighth. Normally the gaps in qualifying here are much bigger, but nearly all the cars ran on the softer compound tyres and this has made the grid very close, the first laps could be very interesting tomorrow." Michael commented from Suzuka.

Race
From the start Michael made a great getaway, carving his way up to fourth place in a very short space of time. By Lap 8 the No.22 Skyline was well placed to maintain or even gain positions during the pit stop's. Michael was conserving his tyres and following the three leaders, who where all lapping closely together and dicing for position.

"The pace was very frantic and I was just driving conservatively and watching what would happen, the cars in front of me where all dicing and when we came to some traffic, they all virtually stopped in a moment of confusion. Then I was just hit very hard e by the Honda driven by Sebastien Phillip and taken out, he was not racing me for position - so I have no idea what happened - but all of a sudden I was in the gravel with a damaged car"

Michael managed to crawl his way out of the gravel and get the NO.22 Nissan Skyline back to the pits, with a very hot and bent car. The crack Nismo squad set about repairing the damaged front end, replacing all the tyres and sending Michael back out into the race. Michael completed his stint gaining as many positions as possible before handing the car over to Tanaka, who drove very well to bring the less than perfect Skyline home in eighth position. "Today has hurt us in the Championship I am not sure where we are now, but with only 3 points I am sure we have dropped a long way back from second position." <pre> Qualifying Results
