Free Practice: Friday 30/03/00 : Michael used the car in the morning, setting a very competitive sixth fastest time of the session. Unfortunately in the afternoon Ukyo suffered a heavy crash and was taken to Hospital where he is recovering well from severe bruising. Ukyo will be released from Hospital soon, but was not able to race. The car was destroyed.

The crack Nismo Squad returned to their base in Tokyo and built another 1999 car for Michael to use with Formula 3 driver Yichi Ide drafted in to co drive with him.

Qualifying: Saturday 01/04/00: The team completed the 1999 Specification car in time for Michael and Yichi to take part in the last twenty minutes of the second qualifying session. The last twenty minutes are open for both GT300 and GT500 cars. With the need to qualify both drivers Michael completed only one installation lap and two flying laps to achieve the fifteenth fastest time of 1'50.20. Ide had to better the time of 1'59.00 to ensure they did not start from the back of the grid, this he did comfortably in one run achieving a 1'55.00.

Race: Sunday 02/04/00 : From the start Michael made several places in the first corner and although slipping back one position in the second corner continued to drive through the field. Following a safety car period Michael handed the Skyline over to Ide in Sixth position. Ide under pressure in his first GT500 race bought the car home in sixth position.

"Firstly I am very happy that Ukyo is OK, his crash was huge and it is a relief he is recovering well, secondly the team has done a great job rebuilding a car for me. Ide did a good job as well. I am happy with the result, in 1997 I did not finish the first race and won this Championship, so this is a good start for me, we have taken some points from a very difficult weekend" Michael Commented from Motegi.
