Michael qualified his Nissan Skyline in tenth position, which for this weekend carries 20 kg success ballast, the second fastest Nissan behind team mate Eric Comas, who is enjoying no success ballast and a larger air restrictor for this race.
"Tenth is OK, we could have been higher, but my quick lap was ruined by traffic and that was that. We are well placed in the championship and just need to get some good points Sunday" Michael commented.
Tanaka started the car from tenth position and immediately gained one place at the start, fighting for eight position Tanaka was helped into the gravel by car number 39 and lost several places. Rejoining he had to retire the Nismo Skyline due to a stone damaging the engine.
" It is a shame that Tanaka was pushed off, so I did not get to drive at all. We would have finished around P4 or P5 today, as that is where the cars around us finished, but we are still quite strong in the championship and will have to push in the second half of the season" Michael commented
