WINCHESTER, Ind. - Going into the ASA ACDelco Series event at the Winchester Speedway, Ricky Johnson and the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team knew survival would be key to finishing the longest race of the year. Johnson survived to finish sixth and was able to complete all 400 laps of the famed Winchester 400.
"This feels good," Johnson said, referring to his second top-10 finish in a row. "Once again, I had great pit stops and was able to pick up positions each time. To complete all 400 laps on a track so physically and mentally demanding is a testament to this Herzog Motorsports team and our determination."
During the race, Johnson raced his way into the top-10 after starting in 14th position and stayed there for most of the event. Johnson was able to command the field for 24 laps, before giving up the lead to pit for tires. "We were fast," Johnson said. "I was a little too free on entry. I could go down low and underneath a guy, but I just wasn't able to complete the pass. It's nice to have the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet back in the top-10 consistently. It's not where we want to be; we'd rather be fighting for top-5's each week, but we'll take this after the season we've had this year."
With one race remaining in the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series season, Johnson sits in ninth place in the ASA National Point Standings, 70 points behind seventh and 59 points behind eighth.
