VERNON, NY - With the Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modified Super DIRT Series at Utica-Rome Speedway on Thursday August 23 for the Tracey Road Equipment/Selec Trucks 100, it will be an important night for the track's regular contingent of 358-Modifieds. A Fulton Speedway "Victoria 200" qualifying spot will be awarded to the highest finishing 358-Modified, as well as a 20 bonus show up points for everyone and an extra payoff to the top four finishing 358-Modifieds.
Some of Utica-Rome's top 358-Modified teams such as point leader Todd Burley, Ron Holmes, Gus Schmidt, J.J. Michaels, John Barker, Roger Phelps, Mitch Gibbs, Paul Jensen, Steve Hulsizer, and Jason Barney will all be on hand to try to win the coveted qualifying spot for Fulton's annual classic known as the "Victoria 200".
All 358-Modified teams on hand will receive 20 bonus show up points, and with the top ten in standings all very close, it will be an important night for all teams as only one points race will remain after the event. Utica-Rome track regulars that run Big Blocks will also receive the 20-bonus show up points. The first 358-Modified to complete the Tracey Road Equipment / Freightliner Selec Trucks 100 will receive an extra $200, the second will get an extra $100, with the third and fourth 358-Modifieds will win an extra $75 and $50 respectively.
The best Big Block Modified teams on the DIRT Motorsports circuit will be on hand to vie for the $6,000 winners share in the 100-lap event. Current series points leader Steve Paine of Waterloo could very well be the driver to watch, even though he has never won at Utica-Rome. Other top contenders on hand include former track champions Jack Johnson, Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont, and Dave Lape as well as series points chasers Billy Decker, Tim McCreadie, Danny Johnson, Alan Johnson, Tim Fuller, Doug Hoffman, Pat Ward, and Bob McCreadie.
Also on action during the same evening will be the DIRT Pro Stocks, racing in a regular track points event. The gates will swing open at 4pm, with time trials for the Modifieds set for 6:45pm, and racing beginning at 7pm. The track is located on Route 5 in Vernon and is easily accessible from New York State Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
