VERNON, NY - The excitement of professional DIRT Motorsports sanctioned stock car racing continues this Sunday June 17 at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Scheduled in a regular five-division program on the ultra fast half-mile will be the DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots. Race time is set for 5:45pm.
With some of the most talented 358-Modified drivers on the DIRT circuit making Utica-Rome their Sunday night home, you never know who will make headlines at race end with the intense competition. To date this season, three different winners have graced victory lane, including J.J. Michaels, Danny Johnson, and current point leader Todd Burley. However, defending track champion Ron Holmes and the legendary Jack Johnson are both fast and hungry for their first wins of the young season after bad luck in recent weeks. Other top drivers challenging for the win in the 30-lap main event will be Roger Phelps, Gus Schmidt, John Barker, Mitch Gibbs, Ted Lamb, Ryan Baye, Paul Jensen, Jason Barney, and Steve Hulsizer.
Tim Clemons has been the man to beat in the DIRT Sportsman division this season, with already three consecutive victories under his belt. Jerry Holmes looks to have the upper hand with the DIRT Pro Stocks, and Jeff Pastorella has one victory along with Dave Mannise in the Pure Stocks. The Slingshot drivers, including recent winners J.J. Courcy and Brian Thomas, will take to a recently enlarged track, which will increase the speeds of their classy machines.
You can be a part of the "Fastest Family Fun in Central New York" this summer at the Utica-Rome Speedway, a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley that produces some of the best three and four wide racing on the entire 26-track DIRT Motorsports circuit. The track is located just east of the village of Vernon on Route 5 and is easily accessible from New York State Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
The gates this Sunday June 17 will open at 4pm, with Slingshot heats beginning at 5:45pm and racing taking the green from Head Starter Chip Burdick at 6pm.
