VERNON, NY- An action packed evening of professional DIRT Motorsports action is planned for this Sunday, June 29, at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Nice n' Easy Grocery Shoppes will present the 4th annual "Night of Legends Reunion" with the Sunoco Race Fuels Super DIRT Series for the DIRT Sportsman plus a regular show 358-Modified, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Also in action will be the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club. The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) will also have representatives on hand to hand out awards to the highest finishing NYSSCA members as part of NYSSCA Safety Awards Night. Gates will open at 4 p.m., with racing action slated to go at 6 p.m.

Dale Planck continues to be the point leader a third of the way into the season over a strong field of DIRT 358-Modifieds. Chasing Planck in the point standings are Mitch Gibbs, Todd Burley, Willy Decker, and Paul Kinney. Drivers looking to make their into the top five in points are Matt Sheppard, Jeff Kotary, JJ Michaels, Kevin Crave, Dave Rauscher, Gus Schmidt, and many more. Planck also leads the way in victories, with two, while Gibbs, Burley, Sheppard, and Jim Rothwell all have one each.

The Sunoco Race Super DIRT Series for the Sportsman makes it's first of two stop at Utica-Rome Speedway this Sunday, and with the recent rainout of the Can-Am tour event, this will be the first event for the East Region. Utica-Rome Speedway Sportsman point leader Paul Carey will lead track regulars Bill Shantel Jr., John Scarborough, Jim Roberts, Jessica Zemken, and Tim Clemons against the DIRT Sportsman tour stars in a 30 lap affair.

After a one-year layoff, Jerry Holmes returned to competition in the Pro Stock ranks and has been the driver to beat so far this season. Holmes has a total of four wins to date, with Jason Rood and Buddy Hencke the only other drivers to keep Holmes out of victory lane, with one win each. Bret Belden, Jim Normoyle, Eric Vanderhoof, Chad Ray, Bill Knapp, and many others looking to taste the thrill of victory at the "Action Track of the East".

Jim Thomas leads a very competitive field of Pure Stocks in a tight point battle thus far this season. Thomas has one point lead over Art Newman, with Dave Pope, Herm Staats, and Waylan Wilczek chasing. Thomas and Chuck Cushman have two wins each, while Herm Staats and Rick Trexler have one apiece.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, just a short trip from New York State Thruway Exit 33, and holds racing events on Sunday evenings throughout the summer with a regular show consisting of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks.
