VERNON, NY -- The family fun of DIRT Motorsports sanctioned stock car racing continues this Sunday June 23 at Utica-Rome Speedway on Skip's Trailer Sales / Rothwell's Used Auto Sales Night. In competition at the fast half-mile will be the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Race time at the popular "Action Track of the East" is set for 6pm.

Action has been hot and heavy in the headline DIRT 358-Modified division with four different winners heading to victory lane to date including Mitch Gibbs, Gordy Button, Todd Burley, and Gus Schmidt. Top drivers still looking for their first win of the season this Sunday in the Skip's Trailer Sales / Rothwell's Used Auto Sales 30-lap main event are current point leader Matt Sheppard, the legendary Jack Johnson, J.J. Michaels, Jim Rothwell, Steve Hulsizer, Ryan Baye, and Jason Barney. Just who will it be this Sunday, will it be a new face in victory lane or the first repeat winner of the year?

The DIRT Sportsman division is as competitive as ever this season, with Jamie Christian, Mike Button, John Christian, and Billy Shantel Jr all reaching the winners column. Defending track champion Tim Clemons has yet to win his first feature of the year. In the Pro Stock ranks, Jason Rood is the driver on top but he has no wins to date. Buddy Hencke has three wins, with Bret Belden taking the victory in the season opener. Dave Mannise has been the driver to beat once again in the Pure Stock division, but Jeff Thorp, Chuck Cushman, and George Schulze all have other things in mind as they look to beat Mannise week in and week out.

On average over 100 drivers race each Sunday during the fast paced race program, typically completed by 10pm to enable everyone to get home and prepare for the upcoming week. The speedway is a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley and it produces some of the most thrilling three and four wide race action on the entire DIRT circuit.

The gates this Sunday on Skip's Trailer Sales / Rothwell's Used Auto Sales Night will open at 4pm, with racing beginning at 6pm when Starter Matt Burdick will throw the first green flag of the evening. The track is located on Route 5 in Vernon, just minutes off New York State Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
