VERNON, NY -- The traditional Family Autograph Night returns to Utica-Rome Speedway this Sunday July 28 along with a thrilling DIRT Motorsports program of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Denny Kelly Chevrolet, located on Route 12B in Hamilton, will present the family fun events, with race time at the historic "Action Track of the East" set for 6pm.
Young Matt Sheppard of Waterloo is the current 358-Modified point leader, but has yet to win a feature. The six drivers that have visted victory lane this season to date are Mitch Gibbs (2), Todd Burley (2), Jack Johnson (2), Gordy Button, Gus Schmidt, and Steve Hulsizer. Other drivers looking to beat those drivers and win their first of the year in the 30-lap Den Kelly Chevrolet main event this Sunday are Jim Rothwell, Ryan Baye, Jason Barney, Jeff Kotary, Pete Taylor, and John Ramsey.
Jamie Christian of West Winfield has been on a hot streak of late in the Sportsman division, but defending track champion Tim Clemons has a new Bicknell chassis and could be a driver to beat the remainder of the season. Kevin Crave, Paul Carey, and Mike Button will also prove to be title contenders this year.
Last year's champion Bret Belden of West Edmeston is the current Pro Stock point leader but the point chase is tight with Jason Rood, Denny Smith, and five time winner Buddy Hencke all within fifteen points of Belden. Dave Mannise of Fulton continues to have a stronghold over the Pure Stock ranks, but it has not been easy, as Art Newman, Chuck Cushman, and Jeff Thorp have been tough this season.
During intermission the popular Family Autograph session will occur, and all race fans will have an opportunity to meet their favorite drivers for autographs, photos, and much more. This much-anticipated event is extremely fun for the children, who might even be able to sit in their favorite driver's car. The night is special for every member of the family.
Utica-Rome Speedway gates this Sunday July 28 on Den Kelly Chevrolet Night will open at 4pm, with racing beginning at 6pm. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds. The track is located on Route 5 in Vernon, just minutes off New York State Thruway Exit 33. For more information, contact (315) 829-4557 or log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com.
