One on one spectator races plus thrilling DIRT Motorsports Competition Sunday July 14 At Utica-Rome Speedway On Royce International Eyeware Night
VERNON, NY - The popular One on One Spectator Races return to Utica-Rome Speedway along with the stock car races this Sunday July 14 on Royce International Eyewear Night. Scheduled in thrilling DIRT Motorsports race competition are the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman (Non-Point), Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks at the "Action Track of the East". Race time at the family fun attraction is set for 6pm.
Young Matt Sheppard of Waterloo has been the hottest driver to date in the headline 358-Modified division and is the current point leader, but he has yet to visit victory lane for the first time in his career at Utica-Rome. Just some of the drivers that Sheppard must beat in the 30-lap Royce International Eyewear main event this Sunday are Mitch Gibbs, Jack Johnson, J.J. Michaels, Ryan Baye, Gordy Button, Steve Hulsizer, Jason Barney, Jim Rothwell, Gus Schmidt, Todd Burley, Jeff Kotary and several others. In all, it has been an interesting season to date with seven different drivers visiting victory lane, but no driver clearly dominating the race action.
Tim Clemons of Gloversville has been on a tear recently in the Sportsman division after debuting a brand new Bicknell chassis. The defending champion, who has two feature wins (one of them non-point) would like nothing more to improve his position in the standings after an early season slump. Feature winners Jamie Christian, Billy Shantel Jr, Mike Button, John Christian will join Clemons this Sunday in quest of yet another win.
Jason Rood of Oneida is the current Pro Stock division point leader, and it looks like the battle for the championship could go down to the wire again this season. Defending champion Bret Belden as well as newcomer Denny Smith, Bill Knapp, and Joe Palmer are all title contenders. Dave Mannise of Fulton continues to lead the Pure Stock standings, but Chuck Cushman, Art Newman, Jeff Thorp, and George Schulze are contenders every Sunday for the feature win over "Mr. Pure Stock."
The fan favorite One on One Spectator races will return for the second time this season during intermission. All you need is your car you drove to the track, a helmet, and a pit pass, and you can compete against other drivers in elimination rounds in an actual drag race lap around the speedway.
