VERNON, NY- Once again this Sunday August 3, Utica-Rome Speedway will roar to life when Randel Scharf, Attorney at Law, presents "Family Fun Night', featuring a regular program of DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and WWE Monster Truck Madness. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing beginning at 6 p.m.
With just four point races remaining, Dale Planck is a driver that controls his own destiny in his quest for the Utica-Rome Speedway 358-Modified championship. Steady finishes have been the formula for success so this year for Planck, two wins and ten top five finishes out of the eleven events contested so far. Mitch Gibbs currently sits in second, within striking distance of the point leader, with Matt Sheppard, Todd Burley, and Willy Decker fill out the remainder of the top five in points.
Thirty-four points is the margin between first and fourth in the Sportsman point standings, with Bill Shantel, Jr. holding the slight advantage over John Scarborough, Jamie Christian, and Jessica Zemken. Jim Roberts currently holds the fifth spot in the point listing.
Jerry Holmes' grip on victory lane has slipped in recent weeks, with his last victory coming on June 8th. Holmes had won four of the first five events at the speedway. Despite not visiting victory, Holmes has kept the point lead throughout the season. Currently, it's Holmes in the lead, with Bret Belden, Eric Vanderhoof, Buddy Hencke, and Bill Knapp filling the top five.
Jim Thomas currently sits atop the Pure Stocks point standings, with Art Newman, Herm Staats, Waylan Wilczek, and Dave Pope currently making up the rest of the top five. Thomas is looking to win his first ever track championship.
WWE Monster Truck Madness will feature Monster Trucks carrying the likeness of some of the WWE's most popular stars. They will compete in several freestyle events during intermission to the delight of fans of all ages. The first 50 children will also receive free Monster Truck rides.
