Tri County Motor Speedway opens 2003 Weekly Racing Series season.
Hudson, NC -- The first race of the 2003 USAR Weekly Racing Series proved to be a successful night for the short track located in Caldwell County. All five divisions were in action for Cars Plus Night at the speedway. The race night was the first of 12 scheduled for this year.
Rock Harris led from flag-to-flag to win the 50-lap feature event for the Tucson Late Models. John Michalowski was second and Dexter Canipe, Jr. was third. Andy Loden and defending division champion Johnny Reynolds completed the top five.
"I really appreciate the support of our sponsors and all the fans coming out here tonight," said Harris. "We had a good qualifying run and we were able to stay out front tonight."
Tom Buzze opened defense of his 2002 track championship in the Modified division with the season-opening win. Buzze passed Jaff Hagaman on lap 9 and held on for the win in the 35-lap event. Hagaman finished second and Kenny Wilson completed the top three. Sam Beam and Billy Jo Wilson completed the top five.
Hagaman made his way to victory lane in the Super Sport Division. Bill Lett finished second and Donnie Buckner finished third in the 25-lap feature event. John Clark and Mark Livingston complete the top-five.
Waylon Flynn outlasted a hard-charging A.J. Sanders by less than a car lenght to win the 20-lap Mini Stock feature. Tim Canipe was third and Greg Butcher and Randy Canipe finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Marshall Sutton closed out the race program with a win in the Street Stock division. David Manis finished second and David Smith was third. Jody Mitchem and Jessie LaFevers completed the top-five.
Tri County Motor Speedway will feature a complete program of the USAR Weekly Racing Series and the Carolina Vintage Race Cars next Friday night April 11th with K & S Auto Sales Night. Qualifying will begin at 7 p.m. with the green flag set to fly at 8 p.m.
