Rising star earns career best finish.

Kenly, North Carolina (July 1, 2002) - 18 year old USAR Hooters Pro Cup driver Shane Wallace finally received the finish he rightfully deserved. Wallace drove his #4 Engine Ice Ford to an impressive 3rd place finish on Saturday during the running of the. Lennox 250 presented by Capital Ford of Greensboro at Southern National Speedway.

"We had an awesome race car and it showed all night," stated Wallace. "We have had a car this good on many occasions this season but something always seemed to happen. But tonight we stayed out of trouble and this Engine Ice Ford ran upfront."

Wallace started the 250 lap event from the 11th starting spot as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day. He held that position for the first 75 laps before he slowly began his march to the front.

A pit stop around Lap 100 really helped dial in the #4 Ford and Shane rocketed to the front of the field. Wallace eventually led his first laps of the season before settling back to around the 5th spot. A late charge on the last restart propelled Wallace to the 3rd place finish.

"We are all really proud of Shane and this team," said father and team owner Ned Wallace. "We obviously believe in the ability of Shane and this team has worked hard to give him a good car each week. This week things fell our way and our finish finally shows the potential that Shane has."

In addition to leading his first laps of the season, Wallace also earned the $1,000 Rookie of the Race Award. He also made a big jump in the point standings in moving up to the 9th position. He also tightened up the points race for the Rookie Award where he stands in a close 2nd place.

The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division takes the customary week off before they return to action on July 13th for their second visit of the season to Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Georgia.
