Howard Looks for Second Consecutive Win at SoBo

Longs, SC - What a difference a year makes for Woody Howard and his Dean Motorsports team. Last April, Howard and his car owner Jim Dean didn't have their car ready to show up to South Boston until Saturday morning. Howard was just hoping everything on the car was in place for them to just make their first Hooters Pro Cup Series race. Howard ended that night with a big surprise for himself and the rest of the division, qualifying on the outside of the front row and posting a solid top-10 finish by coming home in seventh.

Howard followed that impressive debut with three wins and a Miller Lite Rookie of the Year award and feels even better about his team's chances this season with a year of experience under their belt. Howard was able to win the August race at South Boston Speedway last year and looks to make it two wins in a row at his home track this Saturday night with the running of the Aaron's 250 presented by Lance Kelly Designs.

"We got lucky I think at South Boston in the first race last year," said Howard. "We didn't get there for the extra practice on that Friday and we had a whole new crew. We are really looking forward to this year because we have two complete cars ready which means we can work harder on getting our car ready during practice and not have to worry about messing something up and having to go home."

The Aaron's 250 will be the first of 12 races for the Northern Division competitors and will also be the first of two stops for the Hooters Pro Cup Series in 2006. In addition to Howard, defending Series champion Benny Gordon, Mart Nesbitt and Jay Fogleman are past winners at South Boston Speedway scheduled to race this weekend.

"Last year we just were trying to make races to start the season and not tear up our only car," said Howard. "Now we have everything we need to contend for the title and it would be good to get off to a good start. We are glad we went to Lakeland in February. It gave us a chance to get used to the new ignition boxes USAR hands out to the drivers and I think that will help us at South Boston."

Gates will open at 3 p.m. and qualifying for the Aaron's 250 presented by Lance Kelly Designs will get begin Saturday, April at 4:30 p.m. An on-track autograph session will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the green flag set to fly at 7 p.m. The South Boston Speedway local late models will also compete in a 110-lap event immediately after the Aaron's 250.
