Johnny Rumley 10th at South Boston

Summerfield, NC-Johnny Rumley drove the Lucas Oil Products Boyd Sult Racing Chevrolet No. 8 to a 10th-place finish in the Aug. 6 running of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division Lucas Oil 250 presented by Dollar General at Virginia's South Boston Speedway.

"We were real good in practice," said the veteran racer from North Carolina, who qualified third for the race.

The race, however, didn't go as well.

"About 40 laps into the run we were third and we were running good," Rumley said, "but then we started slipping the rear. It was a brand-new rear end, but when it got hot it started slipping. When we checked it after the race the ratchet wouldn't lock up."

Despite the mechanical problems Rumley kept the BSR Lucas Oil machine in position to grab a top-10 finish. And the race included a very promising highlight that could come into play as the season winds down and the championship races commence.

"Mark Huff and the crew pulled off probably the best pit stop we had all year," Rumley said. "We gained a number of spots in the pits; it's just a shame that the car didn't perform any better."
