15-Year-Old Finishes Third In Pro Cup Series Event at Motor Mile

MOORESVILLE, NC (July 19, 2005) -- Joey Logano is a USAR Pro Cup rookie who just made his fifth start in the series. He's a fast learner with a professional team and good equipment. Logano has now finished 60 percent of his Pro Cup races to date in the top five and broke through to win at Mansfield Motorsports Park (OH) in only his second series start.

His streak of strong finishes continued this past weekend with a third-place result in the Pro Cup Northern Division event at Motor Mile Speedway (VA).

"We were pretty good there and overall, it was a good night," said Logano. "We qualified 12th and that wasn't really great, but we started picking them off one at a time. We had a really great pit stop and that was awesome. We tried to stay out of trouble the whole race."

Staying out of trouble meant a few things for Logano. It meant avoiding trouble for one.

"One time, a motor blew right in front of us and there was plenty of oil down on the track. I barely saved it that time, but we kept going."

Staying out of trouble also means overcoming any setbacks with your own car. Logano did this at Motor Mile as well.

"Late in the race, the brakes were getting really hot and the pedal was soft. I had to pump them going down the straightaway. That last caution cooled them down, so we were good at the end."

Logano's secret to his strong finishes is to stay out of trouble. It's as simple as that.

"Most of the time, there are only about 10 cars on the lead lap at the end, so staying out of trouble is important. If you are there at the finish, you can finish well.

"It's a great series (USAR Pro Cup) and I've got a great car. We been learning a lot and we've gotten our pit stops to be pretty good."

The Pro Cup Northern division has next week off. Logano hopes to test early next week at Salem Speedway (IN) before heading there to race on July 30th.
