Huffman can clinch Southern Division top seed at USA
MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- As the regular season for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Southern Division draws to a close, Shane Huffman could look forward to a return to USA International Speedway for various reasons. Huffman, who won at USA International for the first time in 12 starts last May, could wrap up the number one seed with one race remaining on the regular season schedule.
If Huffman wins the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Advance Discount Auto Parts at USA he would clinch the top seed no matter where he finished at Hickory on September 13th.
While Huffman is looking to clinch the top seed going into the Championship Series, several other drivers will be looking to Lakeland as an opportunity to improve their position in the standings or make the race to ensure they qualify to race in the five-race playoff system.
Ronnie Davidson, Daniel Johnson and Calvin Redwine all site just outside the pivotal 30th-place position needed to qualify for the Championship Series in they race the required number of races to become eligible.
While those three drivers are looking to use the Jackaroo Sauces 250 as an opportunity to make the field, many others are looking to improve their position in the standings or gain a win. One of those definitely looking to return to USA International is Steven Christian.
Christian, who collected his first career win in the Series at USA International Speedway in 2000, has remained in the top-five point standings all season long and could use a win at the track to build momentum going into the Championship Series.
Bobby Gill holds the record for most career wins at the track and has endured a challenging season for the three-time USAR Hooters ProCup Series champion. Gill, who has won seven times at USA International, has just one win through the first half of the season and a win at USA International would also be a boost for the Dalton, GA driver.
Defending Series champion Jason Sarvis joins Chirstian with his first career win in the Series at USA International and although he got a late start on the season, the Myrtle Beach, SC driver has charged his way into top-five in the point standings and will be a contender for the win in the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Advance Discount Auto Parts.
Gates will open at noon with practice for the Hooters ProCup Series competitors beginning at 12:30 pm. Qualifying will begin at 5:00 pm and an autograph session starting at 6:15 pm. The Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Advance Discount Auto Parts will start at 7:30 pm.
