McFarland Looks To Close USAR Hooters Pro Cup Season With Victory

Mark McFarland and his Pete Knight Racing team will have one more shot at a USAR Hooters Pro Cup victory when the series runs the fifth and final race of the 2007 Championship Series this Saturday, November 3, at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL.

"It would be awesome to close out the season with a victory," said McFarland, driver of the No. 81 Knight's Companies/Greased Lightning Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "We've had a really good year with two wins and a bunch of top finishes. My guys have worked hard all year long and it would be great to reward them with something like that. Finishing off the year with a win would help us with our plans for next year. We haven't got them in stone yet, but we're hoping to do the whole USAR Hooters Pro Cup schedule. Obviously, a lot of stuff depends on sponsorship, but if we can win at Lakeland, that would go a long way in helping us secure that too."

McFarland is coming off a strong performance in the most recent USAR championship event at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The Winchester, VA driver topped the speed charts winning the pole position in qualifying before coming up just inches short of a victory in the Dan Duncan Memorial 250.

The second-place finish left McFarland sixth in the standings, 116 points behind title leader Bobby Gill.

"I don't think we have a shot at the championship anymore," said McFarland. "Even if we win the race at Lakeland, we'd still have to have a lot of guys in front of us have trouble for us to win the title. Either way, we're looking to go to Lakeland and win the race. Everything else will take care of itself."

McFarland will take a potent No. 81 Chevy to Lakeland and emulate a strategy that produced a near win at South Georgia Motorsports Park two weeks ago.

"We're going to pretty much do the same schedule at Lakeland that we did at South Georgia," McFarland stated. "We saved our tests, so we'll do that on Thursday at Lakeland, then work on the [Car%20with%20Checkered%20350.jpg] car on Friday, and come back ready to race Saturday. We'll be ready to go. Lakeland has always been a pretty good track for me. I've finished second there a couple of times, but I've never won there. That would be a great way to end the season. I'm looking forward to it."

McFarland and his Pete Knight Racing team will take the green flag in the final race of the 2007 USAR Hooters Pro Cup season at USA International Speedway at Lakeland, FL on Saturday, November 3. Theevent will roll off at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
