Jason Sarvis to Drive for Jimmy Spencer

Jason Sarvis, the 2002 USAR Hooters ProCup champion, will drive for Nextel Cup competitor Jimmy Spencer when the ProCup South Division competes at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway on March 20.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to drive the Spencer Motor Ventures No 52 Chevrolet," said Sarvis, who makes his home in Mooresville, N.C. "It's been hectic putting this deal together at the last minute, but I think we'll have a good racecar."

Sarvis said that Spencer's son, Jimmy Spencer Jr., will accompany the team to become acclimated to ProCup racing. A limited schedule is planned for Spencer Jr., and Sarvis will take on the role of coach "to help speed up his learning curve."

"This is a one-race deal right now," noted Sarvis. "But if we can find sponsorship the opportunity exists to run more races with the team."

Meanwhile, Sarvis, who spotted for former ProCup champion Bobby Gill at the season-opener in Lakeland, Fla., is glad to be climbing down from the spotters' stand and climbing back behind the wheel.

"I'm looking forward to racing," Sarvis said, "and I'm proud to be driving for Jimmy Spencer. Expect us to have a good run at New Smyrna."
