The 15-Year-Old Talent to Pilot the No. 31 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (September 15, 2009) -- Turner Motorsports, LLC is pleased to announce today that Logan Ruffin, a 15-year-old talent, will make his USARacing Pro Cup Series debut this Saturday at Iowa Speedway, piloting the No. 31 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet. Ruffin most recently competed in the ASA Late Model Series in 2008, where the Brentwood, Tennessee native claimed the trophy in the 42nd Annual World Series of Asphalt ASA/Crate Late Model Championship as the youngest person to ever compete in the event.
In 2004, Ruffin began his racing career in Quarter Midgets, where he captured several victories in his first year of competition. After racing in a full Quarter Midget season, Ruffin advanced his career by competing in a Mini Cup in the MMRA Series. The youngster ran the full MMRA Mini Cup Series season in 2006, where Ruffin captured 15 wins and only two finishes outside the top-three positions in a total of 27 starts. Ruffin finished the National Championship competition in second-place, only one point shy of the title. The next year (2007), Ruffin ran in numerous Pro Challenge Series races, across the Southeast portion of the United States, in addition to racing in the Legends Semi-Pro Division. Most recently in 2008, the teenager not only competed in the ASA Late Model Series, but was featured in an issue of Sports Illustrated and SPEED Channel's "NASCAR Confidential: The Next Generation" show, starring up-and-coming drivers who have the potential to compete at NASCAR's highest level.
"I'm very excited to have this opportunity to drive for Turner Motorsports," said Ruffin. "Racing is what I love to do and even though I have competed in numerous series since I started racing, I've never driven a Pro Cup car. It's going to be a learning experience but I'm very ready for Saturday to come and get on the track in Iowa. Turner Motorsports has great equipment and I know that the guys have been working hard to prepare this car. I'm looking forward to having the chance to run the No. 31 Chevrolet and I have to thank Steve and Sandra (Turner, owners) for the chance to drive their car, my parents and everyone who has helped me get to this point in my career."
In the 2009 season, Turner Motorsports, based out of Mooresville, North Carolina, has competed on a part-time basis in the USARacing Pro Cup Series, tallying four top-10 finishes. The Iowa 200 from the Newton, Iowa racetrack will take the green-flag shortly after 7:30 P.M. Central Time on Saturday, September 19th. Stay tuned to usarprocup.com for updates from the Iowa 200. "I've competed in one race at Iowa before in the ASA Late Model Series, so I have had some laps around the track," Ruffin said. "It is definitely a race track that allows the drivers to run in multiple grooves and the fan turnout is always great. This weekend is going to be an exciting time for myself and the team and hopefully we can pull off a solid finish and maybe even having a shot at the win."
