Illiana Motor Speedway Welcomes the Hooters ProCup Series
Longs, SC - For the fourth consecutive year, Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, IN will host the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. The Walt's Foods 250 presented by BFGoodrich Tires will be on Saturday, August 21st at 7:30 p.m. at the one-half mile track located just outside Chicago in western Indiana.
Jeff Agnew, who has been in the top-five of the point standings in the Northern Division for most of this season, is the defending champion of this race as he held off a hard-charging Kertus Davis to get the win last year. The 1998 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Champion looks forward to returning to the track.
"We look forward to racing at Illiana in a couple of weeks," said Agnew. "We were able to get a win there last year up there in front of a good crowd."
The Walt's Foods 250 presented by BFGoodrich Tires will be followed by a 40-lap Mid-Am race. The race will be race #11 of 12 regular season races for the Northern Series competitors and could give a clear picture in the chase for the regular season top seeding from the Northern Division.
In addition to Agnew, Danny Sammons and Jason McLellan are the only other drivers who finished in the top-10 last year at Illiana scheduled to run at Illiana Motor Speedway this season. Joel Kauffman, who picked up his first career win earlier this season in his home state at Salem Speedway in southern Indiana, could be a challenger for another win and it would be nice to get that win close to home.
"I enjoyed running there last year," said Kauffman. "It would be nice to get a win there since we will have so many family and friends there watching us."
Brian Ross, who has won at Illiana Motor Speedway would like to get a win for his new team before heading into the Championship Series and enjoys racing at Illiana.
"It would be nice to get another win at Illiana Motor Speedway for our team," said Ross. "Hopefully we can put a good run together and close out the season strong and be ready for the Championship Series."
