MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- For the third consecutive year Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, IN will host the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. The Miller Lite 250 presented by Wilco Foods will be the third consecutive Northern Division race for the Series at the one-half mile track located just outside Chicago in western Indiana.
Brian Ross and Eric Corbett, two drivers currently in the top three point standings for the Northern Division finished first and second respectively last year at the track on a cold and windy afternoon. Jeff Agnew who has led the point standings in the Northern Division this season, finished a disappointing 28th last season but finished third in 2001. The 1998 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Champion looks forward to returning to the track.
"We look forward to racing at Illiana in a couple of weeks," said Agnew. "We were able to get a good finish in 2001 up there in front of a good crowd. Last year we had some mechanical problems."
Jay Fogleman is another driver currently in the top five who finished well last year at Iliana Motor Speedway. Fogleman, who has won three races so far this season in the Series, finished third at Illiana last year and looks forward to returning to the speedway.
"Last year was one of the coldest days we have ever raced on," said Fogleman. "Hopefully we can bring our Lucas Oil Ford home in victory lane."
The Miller Lite 250 presented by Wilco Foods will be on Saturday August 9th at 7:30 pm followed by a 30-lap local late model race. The race will be race #10 of 12 regular season races for the Northern Series competitors and could give a clear picture in the chase for the regular season top seeding from the Northern Division.
Last year Brian Ross entered with a top seeding and it gave him the advantage he needed to hold on and win the 2002 Miller Lite Rookie of the Year Award. Ross, who won five times last season, has already visited victory lane once this year at Jennerstown Speedway.
"It would be nice to get another win at Illiana Motor Speedway for our team," said Ross. "Hopefully we can put a good run together and close out the season strong and be ready for the Championship Series."
