Jay Fogleman joins ProCup Southern Division in 2004.
Jay Fogleman and the JFco Motorsports No. 4 Lucas Oil Products Ford will compete in the United Speed Alliance Racing Hooters ProCup Southern Division in 2004.
The Durham, N.C., racer, who competed in the Northern Division in 2003, mentioned family and old rivalries as his reasons for making the change.
"My little girl told me she didn't want me to race anymore," Fogleman said. "When I asked her why, she said, 'Because you're gone all the time.' That day was when I decided that I'd be racing in the South."
Fogleman and his wife, Kim, have twin 4-year-old children: A daughter, Logan; and a son, Tate.
"They're going to be able to go to a lot of races this year," observed Fogleman. "Last year they didn't get to go to more than two or three races."
Whereas family was Fogleman's primary reason for switching ProCup divisions, the change does mark a return home of sorts for the veteran racer.
"I met a lot of good people, but I've only raced in the North for two years and it's a new series," Fogleman said. "I miss the rivalries in the South, like racing Bobby Gill and door-slamming with him each week; it doesn't get any better than that. I feel like a kid on Christmas again, looking forward to getting back to tracks like Ace and Hickory, where I've raced all my life. I needed this change to light my fire as a racer again."
The USAR Hooters ProCup Series begins its 2004 season on Feb. 28 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla.
