Milwaukee an Important, Busy Weekend For Kluever
Wisconsin Native Will Pull Double Duty On Sunday in Both Races
Marshall, WI (August 26, 2004) -- There are very few weekends that Todd Kluever looks forward to more than ASA events in his home state of Wisconsin. And when in Wisconsin, very few racetracks are more important than the legendary Milwaukee Mile.
But Todd doesn't plan on just sitting back and taking in his first career ASA start at the track. Instead, he will stay busy racing his MARS Late Model in addition to his SK Hand Tools/Sign-1-1 No. 55 Chevrolet on Sunday afternoon.
"This is a big, big weekend for me and this whole team," said Kluever, who currently sits 14th in the ASA point standings. "Any ASA race in Wisconsin is important because it is practically our home. It is also very important to our sponsors because they are both located in the upper Midwest, not all that far from Milwaukee.
"Having a good run is key at Milwaukee. It is key to get some of the bad luck we've had lately off of our backs as well. Milwaukee and Madison (International Speedway) are always the two races that I look forward to the most all year long. They are places where your friends and your family can come and watch and cheer you on. You always want to do well in front of them, so it is important to run good there. These are the people that have helped you get where you are today and are still helping you out."
Todd's weekend will begin on Friday when he practices his ASA and MARS Late Model. Saturday will focus on ASA practice and qualifying, while Sunday will consist of the 50-lap MARS race followed by the 200-lap ASA National Tour event at the mile track.
"It is going to be a busy weekend, that is for sure. I'm really excited to get back to Milwaukee, though. It is one of those tracks that you just love to go to. I raced there back in 2001 in my MARS car during our championship season and I haven't been back since. So to be able to race in both MARS and ASA races in one weekend, on the same day, will be pretty special.
Kluever has struggled with his ASA car over the past couple of races, but a productive test session at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway (WI) has him and the team excited about their chances.
"We figured if we could get the car to turn good at LaCrosse, which has long, sweeping turns much like Milwaukee, we would be ready for Milwaukee. By the end of the day, I was really happy with the car and I think we will unload good.
"We will be prepared with all of the time we've spent working on our cars. I've been going down and working on the Late Model a lot this past week to get it ready. We will be prepared. There is no doubt about that."
The Lester Buildings 200 will take the green flag on Sunday, August 29th, at 3 p.m. (local).
