MOORESVILLE, NC (February 9, 2005)--Steve Wallace's breakthrough 2004 season has yet to end, as he recently garnered several prestigious post-season awards. Speed51.com, the internet's premier website devoted to the world of short track racing, has recently announced the winners of their annual "51" awards. The day's biggest winner was none other than Steve Wallace. Wallace, the 2004 Snowball Derby champion and UARA Rookie of the Year, garnered three awards, more than any other single driver and barely missed winning a fourth.
The "51" awards encompass a plethora of categories and are decided entirely by fan voting. The web site named Wallace the "Short Track Rookie of the Year" for his Snowball Derby win and dominating UARA performances. Additionally, by virtue of his Snowball Derby victory, Wallace picked up the awards for "Best Moment" and "Surprise Moment of the Year." He was runner up for the "Most Promising Driver" award, missing the honor by a mere seven votes.
Wallace, the 17 year-old son of NASCAR legend, Rusty Wallace, was also named to the website's annual "All-Dillner Team," named for and chosen by, Speed Channel commentator and noted short track expert, Bob Dillner. The honor recognizes the country's best short track drivers. Regarding Wallace, Dillner noted, "He can talk the talk and now he's beginning to back it up on the...track."
Steve Wallace's 2005 racing plans include making a full-time run at the USAR Hooters Pro Cup championship, defending his Snowball Derby title and potentially making several ARCA RE-MAX and NASCAR Busch Series starts.
