(Ashland, KY-- July 17, 2002) Steve Francis took second-place honors at last weekend's Renegade DirtCar Racing series visit to the famed Hagerstown Speedway on Friday evening. Francis took his Valvoline/MOPAR Parts Dodge Intrepid to the front of the field early in the event before settling for the runner-up spot when the checkered flag waved. The Team MOPAR effort continues to rank as one of the top performers in dirt late model action and head into a triple-header weekend on the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) tour this weekend as part of the national championship battle which currently shows Francis in third place. Francis, known as the Kentucky Colonel by his legions of fans across America was slated to compete in a UDTRA event at Hagerstown on Saturday before the event was postponed due to rain.

Francis hopes to parade his MOPAR Parts Dodge Intrepid at the front of the field in the"Southeastern Dodge Dealers Duel" when this weekend's action begins on Friday July 19th at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville, TN with a 50-lap war, which will yield $10,000 to the winner. Following the Friday night stop in Knoxville Francis and company will tackle the remaining UDTRA weekend events with Saturday and Sunday stops to follow in Atlanta and Rome, GA. Francis campaigns the Team MOPAR entry for Dirt Late Model Racing with the Rocket Chassis prepared machine in conjunction with his partnership with Rocket Chassis owner Mark Richards and engines by Gary Stanton Racing Engines. So far during the 2002 season Francis has tallied 19 top-five and 24 top-ten finishes to go with 3 wins and 8 Pole Awards.
