Steve Francis Rallies For Three Straight Top-5 Finishes In Big Kahuna Events As Racing Competition Swings Towards Dixie Speedway

"Kentucky Colonel" scores first career MACS victory in Big Kahuna events

(Ashland, KY-October 8, 2001) Steve Francis put on a clinic of consistency this past weekend at the Rock /Allegheny County Speedway by posting three straight top-4 finishes that included a victory. Francis was one of two drivers to finish in the top-5 in all three events.

Steve started the three-day affair in MACS action by starting from the pole position, grabbed the lead on lap 15, and drove away to pick up his third victory of the season.

On the second night, Francis three wheeled his Valvoline Motor Oils/Mopar Performance Dodge to capture the STARS CARRERA SHOCKS "Challenge the Clock" time trials. This marks the 9th fastest qualifier award of the season. Steve started his Valvoline sponsored Rocket Chassis Dodge in the 5th starting position and mounted a strong run to finish 4th in the STARS Series 50 lap event.

Steve followed up the next and final night of racing at the Rock / Allegheny County Speedway in UDTRA competition scoring a 2nd place finish with a win coming in the fourth heat race that placed the Kentucky native in the 4th starting position.

"We won on Thursday night, set fast time on Friday night, and had an excellent finish on Saturday," said Steve. "We a great weekend of racing and now we are looking forward to heading to Dixie (Speedway) this weekend for the Shootout."

With one event remaining on the UDTRA schedule in 2001, Francis is 27 points behind series points leader, Rick Eckert for the UDTRA National Championship heading into the UDTRA Shootout at Dixie Speedway in Atlanta, GA this weekend (October 12-13). "Since Green Valley, we have been taking it one race at a time, enjoying ourselves, and just trying to win races," comments Steve concerning the close UDTRA points battle.
